Bodegas Ysios 2011

Certainly, Bodegas Ysios is a winery in Spain. However, we didn’t travel here for the wine. No, we made this journey for the architecture. Unfortunately, it was closed.

The building was created to be integrated into the surrounding landscape. Yet, it is also a statement and a sculpture. Santiago Calatrava is a Spanish architect, designer, and engineer, as well as a sculptor and painter. In fact, Calatrava is most known for his bridges.

I loved the use of the warm cedar slats on the facade and the way the sun bounced of the kinetic roof volume.
