The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao by Frank Gehry is just stunning. It sits on the edge of Nervión River. The twisting and swirling forms create a sensuous dance in the middle of an urban, industrial center. The design creates a meandering riverside promenade and produces an ample public plaza at the entrance.
The skin dresses the structure with titanium scales bringing an exceptional lightness and radiance to the area. It is a beautiful effect of reflected light complimenting the warm limestone and glass.
What Frank Gehry has created is a modern cathedral to art. It is a soaring sculpture on its own. It is a symbol of greatness for the city of Bilbao and inevitably puts it in the center of the art world. We made this an architectural pilgrimage, and it didn’t disappoint.
